Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about the Barrett Blueprint process, support options, timeline, and college essay coaching experience.

How does The College Essay Blueprint work?

After you sign up for your level of support, you will have access to the workbook that will guide you step-by-step through the process of selecting your Common App essay topic, brainstorming, drafting, and revising. Annotated sample essays are also included in the workbook. There are a series of checkpoints at which you will receive feedback directly from me through a shared Google doc. Finally, there are pre-recorded instructional videos that will guide the student through each and every step of the process.

What exactly is included in the package?

The flat-fee stewardship covers comprehensive, end-to-end management of the primary personal statement. Depending on your level of support this may include intensive strategy sessions, deep developmental editing, continuous narrative feedback, and rigorous timeline management to ensure the essay is completed well ahead of deadlines.

Do you offer help with supplemental essays?

Yes. Each tier is built around your Common App personal statement, but many students also need help with school-specific supplements and UC PIQs. This is available hourly, just mention it during our first talk, and I'll scope out what your student needs.

Do you offer hourly tutoring?

Yes, hourly sessions are available for students who need targeted support outside the standard tiers whether that's a single essay, focused revision, or a specific writing challenge. Rates are discussed based on the scope of work.

What if my student already has a draft of their Common App essay?

That's no problem. Depending on how much the draft needs (a light polish vs. deeper structural revision), we'll figure out together whether that fits an hourly session or a more comprehensive package. I'll always be upfront about what will genuinely help your student's essay.

When is the ideal time for a rising senior to begin?

The ideal window to start the framework is late spring or early summer before senior year begins. Initiating the process early allows students the cognitive breathing room to explore compelling topics and finish their primary essay before the heavy academic demands of the fall semester hit.

How involved should parents be in the writing process? Parent input is highly valued during the initial onboarding and strategy phases to help map out family milestones and background. However, to ensure the essay maintains a completely authentic, vulnerable student voice that admissions officers trust, the active drafting and editing sessions take place directly and privately between the coach and the student.
